No doubt, the worst part of building your vacuum tube amplifier project is constructing the chassis.  Build it on a blank Bud or Hammond chassis with 25 pounds of transformers, and it wobbles like a frisbee, looks like something that was made in your garage and has no lettering.  In addition, the ideal size is never available as stock. Instead, use this modular chassis specifically designed for use as a stereo, single-ended tube integrated amplifier using KT66, KT77, KT88, 6550, EL34 or 7591 types OR -- if holes for two additional output tubes are drilled, a Push-Pull amplifier using 7591 or 6V6 types may be used with a tube rectifier.  Other tube types may be used if a tube rectifier is NOT used. The chassis comes unassembled and with as many parts as practical, while leaving the ultimate design to you. Note: Any uneveness appearing in the finish is due to reflections during photography.   Knobs, some controls and toggle switch are optional. What's Included1.) A complete, aircraft-aluminum, black-anodized chassis with dress side panels and appropriate lettering using epoxy ink. Every effort was placed towards the highest quality chassis possible.  This chassis was formed and punched using CNC machinery with a precision that no hand drilling could ever accomplish.  Most of the edges were sheared so there are no 'nibble marks' along the edges showing anywhere on the exterior of the chassis.  The attractive black anodizing has a slight amount of gloss.  This is a thick, rigid, heavy-duty chassis designed to hold 30+ pounds of parts.  The non-magnetic aluminum chassis will contribute to making your amplifier sonically noise-free along while having greatly reduced weight.2.) All the parts which fit into the holes are included except the transformers and some controls.  See individual panel descriptions for what's included.3.) All the hardware for assembly of both the chassis and the parts included.  All fasteners are button-head socket cap screws. Tube LayoutThe tube layout is logical and the chassis is designed for point-to-point construction using the supplied solder terminal strips and chassis-mounted tube sockets.  Didn't like your dream KT88 SE amp project?  Take it apart and rebuild it as often as you want.  With no circuit boards and no parts attached with rivets, you can experiment and substitute parts and circuits until you get it right.  Besides the holes already punched, you may, of course, drill additional holes for any purpose.  SizeThe approximate finished overall size is 16 1/2" wide X 13 1/2" deep X 4 1/2" high (without transformers). Lettering Since all the panels are removable and lie flat, they are easy to add any additional silkscreening.  The front and back panels have gold epoxy lettering, an attractive contrast with the black chassis. If there is lettering you want to remove, it can be done with a very small amount of lacquer thinner without affecting the finish.   TOP PANEL   The top is .125 (1/8") thick.  The thick top plate guarantees rigidity even when many large holes are drilled.  The front and back edges of the top panel are machine radiused for better cosmetics, which is an expensive operation.  The non-magnetic properties reduces audible electrical noise present in single-ended designs. The top is black-anodized "Bright-Dip Gloss". LAYOUTThis chassis provides three octal sockets for a tube rectifier and two output tubes. Three 9-pin sockets provide for preamplification and driver tubes. One socket may also provide for active/passive bass/treble controls or a buffer for recording outputs.  If it is found one of the 9-pin holes is unnecessary, a cosmetic cover provided can be used to cover the hole. Holes are punched for a typical power transformer with the capacity for this circuit format.  The power transformer mounting hole centers are 3" x 2 7/8", making it suitable for some of the Hammond 300 series power transformers such as the 373BX and 374BX.  Regardless of your source voltage, these transformers are recommended over the 200 series due to much more accurate secondary voltages, reduced stray field radiation and much quieter mechanical operation.  However, a 200 series transformer can be used. The output transformer hole centers are 2 1/4" x 3" making it suitable for single-ended transformers like the One-Electron. Two test sockets are provided for easy reading of output tube cathode voltage and one socket for ground reference. The small, 1/4" hole at the front / center is for a switch in the circuit to connect the power amplifier section to either the internal preamplifier section or an external preamplifier or active crossover.  The toggle switch itself is not included, however a decorative hole cover is provided and the lettering can be removed as described above if this feature will not be used. A ground bus consisting of a 14 gauge wire or similar can be stretched across the single solder lugs shown just below the center octal socket.  A single point ground can be established at the left single solder lug. The internal height of the chassis, 3 1/4", is enough to use vertically mounted can capacitors of the 1 3/8" diameter size. Plenty of room is provided for all wiring. LETTERINGThe lettering on this panel is gray, providing identification without looking intrusive.  The lettering from front-to-back, and left to right reads:DIRECT / EXTERNAL, ECC81 / 12AT7, E88CC / 6922, ECC81 / 12AT7, E34L / EL34, GZ34 / 5AR4, E34L / EL34, TEST, GROUND, TEST Please note that it is not suggested that these tube types should or must be used.  However, an excellent integrated amplifier using these tubes may be built.  Substitutions could include the use of KT66, KT77, KT88, 6550, 7591, 12AX7, 12AU7, 6N1P, 6CG7, 12BH7, ECC99 and others along with the appropriate transformers.
