Description
60s JBL PARAGON Stereo Studio Monitor SPEAKER SYSTEM NR NOTE: We strongly recommend that the winning bidder pick up this item in person. As long as the bid price is paid within two weeks of the auction, we will be happy to store it for up to three months, no charge, so you will have plenty of time to make the arrangements. You will also need to bring or hire sufficient help (each half weighs 335 lb). We are in Omaha Nebraska, 68102. If you are not able to pick it up in person, we can have it professionally crated and shipped, but it will be very expensive. For most locations in the continental US, the total for crating, freight, and insurance will be between $1500 and $2500 (see below for estimates to some major locations). The buyer may also arrange their own packaging and freight, but in that case the buyer will be responsible for making all the arrangements and paying the freight company directly. We are not able to ship this item outside the USA. NO RESERVE PRICE.DIMENSIONS/WEIGHT: Overall 104" long x 35 1/8" tall x 29" deep. Each half is 52" x 35 1/8" x 29", 335 lb. The curved piece is 63"x28"x12" max, 29 lb. Total weight 700 lb. Legendary 1960's vintage JBL Paragon cabinet speaker system. This unit has a back panel for an "energizer transducer" power amp, which dates this positively to the 1960's. The serial number on the back is: "41132." There is a plethora of information about these units available online, so I won't list the specs, features, and history here, but here's a link to the Lansing Heritage page on this model: http://www.audioheritage.org/html/profiles/jbl/paragon.htm For the uninitiated, I can tell you that this breaks down into three parts: two halves and a curved "acoustic refractor" front panel. The mid-century Danish Modern design of the oiled walnut cabinet is breathtaking. The sound is fantastic. I would love to keep this in my home, but other expenses make it impossible. This was recently purchased directly from the original owner's estate, and has been kept in a warm, dry, pet-free/smoke-free living room since new. I took photos of it outside my storage garage, but it was only in storage for a little over a week. I also purchased his entire collection of vintage audiophile quality stereo equipment at the same time, so please look at my other auctions for some other great stuff.CONDITION: Tested and sounds fantastic. Both sides produce equal, clean sound with no distortion, buzzing, etc.. Cosmetically, this is in excellent original shape overall, with no restorations, repairs, or refinishing. I could only find two veneer chips, both to the curved panel-- the worst is on the top edge, and the other is on the bottom edge. The top edge of the panel is slightly darker than the rest of the wood. Some extremely minor scratches and marks to the wood elsewhere. The gold front plates for the horns have some scratches. The back legs have some wear and white paint on the black portions. The "V" shaped brackets that hold the two sides together at the middle are missing, but the side plates are all intact on both the front and back.
